Introverted Empath
finding healing in quiet spaces where my soul can breathe.
I just started a new book called The Empath’s Survival Guide by Judith Orloff, MD. While I have yet to finish it, it has opened my eyes more to who I truly am as a human being.
Empaths are often told that they care too much or that they are too sensitive – as if these are not good qualities to have.
Instead of listening to the negative self-talk about these qualities, I began embracing them. Am I sensitive? Absolutely! Do I care too much? No! Maybe I don’t care enough. The best thing about being an introverted empath? We need less dopamine to feel happy.
em·path
/ˈempaTH/
noun
a person with the ability to perceive the mental or emotional state of another individual.
“empaths are highly sensitive people who pick up emotional energy from everyone around them”
Humans have an energy field around them called an aura or a biofield. While this term is somewhat controversial and there isn’t hard evidence to prove it, the term biofield was coined in 1992 by a committee of practitioners and researchers at a conference hosted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Office of Alternative Medicine (OAM)
Empaths easily connect to this biofield, sensing the energy of people and environments around us. I know this to be especially true for me. Have you ever been to an event where the vibes were off and you could feel yourself becoming exhausted from it? Or what about being around someone who is an energy vampire and can’t seem to find anything positive to say about anything? While this is also true of the opposite, this is the energy of a biofield.
Being an empath is beautiful in so many ways. We feel things to our core and have emotional depth, we have strong intuition about following our gut feelings, and we often have a healing presence that can make others feel safe and seen.
As we go into the last week of October, I hope you feel grounded and calm. Release what no longer serves you and be proud of how far you’ve come this month- no matter what you’ve tackled.
With love, happiness, and an excitement of the upcoming holidays(YAY!),
Hanna
